5 QUESTIONS for Shane Parish

-First musical experience or song you can remember?

The first song I remember is "Coming to America" by Neil Diamond.  It came on the radio at my uncle's house and I just started dancing and singing the shout chorus at the end.  Very innocent.  I must have been three or four years old.  It was early 1980's.

-First album you bought?

The first cassette tape I bought was Metallica's "And Justice For All..."  I must have been in 5th grade.  I remember my parents reading the lyrics together at the dinner table to see if it was appropriate.  The opening lyrics to the last song on the album, "Dyers Eve" is are:

"Dear Mother

Dear Father

What is this hell you have put me through"

Needless to say, they were concerned.  lol.

-What does your (chosen) family think of your music?

My family is proud of the fact that my music has become my life and career.  I dropped out of high school to be a musician and it took many years to develop my skills and establish a reputation.  My wife is huge supporter of my dedication to music.

- If your music had a color or pattern or material, what would it be?

My music would be liquid, iridescent, and morphing between different hues of orange and green.

- A question you always wanted a Journalist to ask you but no one ever has?

I don't really know. I have been asked so many questions.  I guess I enjoy it when I am surprised by a question, which I have been in recent interviews with Fretboard Journal, Philip Sherburne, Quietus, Liberacion, and A Closer Listen. They asked deep questions about my process that made me have to interrogate myself in new ways and learn something new about what I do.
