Marc Ribot says…
Last year, Ches Smith called and said— “you should check out this gig I’m doing tonight with bass player Farida Amadou.”
I said “ok”. They were playing in a tiny cafe in the Ditmas Park section of Brooklyn. It was the most intense, exciting music I’ve heard in decades.
Afterwards, I said to Farida and Ches: “let’s jam”.
They said “yes".
And here we are.
Farida Amadou is a self-taught electric bassist and sound sculptor based in Brussels. Known for her raw, intuitive approach to improvisation, she has become a vital force in experimental music, collaborating with artists such as Thurston Moore, Peter Brötzmann, and Moor Mother. Blending free jazz, noise, and deep rhythmic structure, Amadou creates immersive soundscapes that balance intensity with clarity. Her solo work, including the acclaimed When It Rains It Pours (2024), showcases her unique ability to shape spontaneous sonic worlds with power, precision, and emotional depth.
Marc Ribot, described by the Financial Times, “singular approach to guitar compresses swathes of Americana into a full spectrum of jazz and stirs in a hefty dash of punk attitude”, & Ches Smith hailed by The New York Times as “one of the wiliest drummers on the experimental scene”, have collaborated since 2005 with their post-rock-agit-punk band, Ceramic Dog, releasing five studio albums over two decades. Together, this new trio explores the outer reaches of where their diverse improvisational backgrounds may take them.
