Luke Bergman is a Pacific Northwest–born multi-instrumentalist and pedal steel guitarist based in New York City. Known for his expressive approach and wide-ranging musical curiosity, he has built a career that bridges jazz, classical, Americana, and experimental music.
While proficient on multiple instruments, Bergman's primary voice is the pedal steel guitar. Beyond traditional applications of the instrument, he creates original arrangements of jazz and classical repertoire, expanding its expressive possibilities and introducing it to new musical contexts. As a recording artist, he has released two solo pedal steel albums, as well as the trio album Luke Bergman Jason Burger and Martin Nevin, featuring bassist Martin Nevin and drummer Jason Burger.
As a bassist, Bergman performs with acclaimed guitarist and composer Bill Frisell, and he has collaborated with innovative artists including trumpeter Cuong Vu and the ensemble Heatwarmer. Whether performing, arranging, or recording, his work reflects a deep commitment to musical exploration, thoughtful collaboration, and pushing the boundaries of the pedal steel guitar.
