Back in 2008, internationally acclaimed bass player, composer, and singer Avishai Cohen released "Sensitive Hours" to wonderful acclaim all over Israel. A very special collection of music featuring many songs sung in his native language Hebrew for the very first time. The album was an amazing success being awarded Gold sales status and gaining massive airplay and popularity.
Now, over 17 years later and after growing a large and dedicated audience all over the world with his trio & orchestra recordings, Avishai felt it was time to revisit those special songs & sounds live again. Featuring some of those gifted musicians from 2008, including, Yonotan Voltzok on trombone, andand 21 year old recent new arrivals to Avishai musical world The young and talented Eviatar Slivnik on drums, 20 year old Itay Simhovich (piano) and the gifted Yuval Drabkin on Saxophone. The Hebrew Book ‘Chapter 2 ‘ is 6-piece ensemble from Israel paying tribute to Cohen’s heritage.
"This band and music is very close to my heart. It includes my friends and many influences and inspirations that I have experienced since my childhood. Unlike other previous touring projects , it solely has text and vocals in Hebrew which draws me closer to myself and the deepest emotions within me."
Cohen with this new young band line -up will perform music from his gold selling album ‘Sensitive Hours’ ( Shaot Regishot) as well as hit songs released in Israel over recent years which have been considered favourites by many In Israel and globally such as Shalom Aleichem, Shir Preda, Alon Basela, Shuvi Elay alongside new compositions and songs that have never been performed live before .
„After gaining exposure in Chick Corea's trio in the late 1990s, Avishai Cohen has taken his dramatic acoustic bass sound mixed with Jewish folk music, jazz, world and classical influences and weaved them into a distinctive and accessible style. That style and his abilities as a showman and performer have given him global recognition and a wide network of influence, cementing his position as one of the top bass players of his generation.“ (Neill Duggan, All About Jazz, 21.10.2024)
