Stetson Fox & Dunn is a free-improvisation trio built on years of overlapping paths. Colin Stetson is a saxophonist and composer known for his circular-breathing solo work, his JUNO-nominated The Love It Took to Leave You, and his scores for films including Hereditary and The Menu. Greg Fox is a New York drummer whose work spans Liturgy, Guardian Alien, Zs and Ex Eye, the quartet he shares with Stetson. Trevor Dunn co-founded Mr. Bungle and plays with Fantômas, Tomahawk and John Zorn, and leads his own Trio-Convulsant. The three met in a Brooklyn studio in January 2018 with no compositions, just the instruments. Engineer Eli Crews recorded the session at Figure 8 Recordings, and the result became Nethering, released in February 2026 by Envision Records and Invada Records as the first in a series of collaborative improvised albums from Stetson. The record runs about forty minutes across seven pieces, from the crushing title track to the near-silent “Molemoss.” Stetson’s throat-mic vocalizations add a fourth voice over Dunn’s contrabass and Fox’s relentless pulse. On stage, nothing is set in advance: each performance is its own piece.
“Loud, abrasive and boundary-pushing … Highly
recommended.”
