Andy Sheppard Trio, is a project led by the saxophonist and composer who has established himself as one of Europe’s leading contemporary jazz figures. In this new trio, Sheppard has the opportunity to develop an entire programme of new
compositions, taking a spirited fresh approach to his writing for this project, honouring jazz in its tradition but alowing free space for interpretation by the elements of the trio. Colectively exploring the possibilities of improvisation and interplay, the music is anchored in structure but open to lyricism, free to choose new paths and take on
different directions in the making. Born out of a shared view on developing a convergence of musical paths, these structures designed by Sheppard and based on his free-flowing melodic compositions, invite each member to venture into infinite possibilities for improvisation with an open aesthetic at its core. ANDY SHEPPARD SALT CATCHERS (with Andy Sheppard , Michel Benita & Rita Marcotuli) was recorded at Lugano's Auditorio Stelio Molo, produced by Manfred Eicher, the album to be released on ECM on the 11th of September 2026.
