PAUL McMANDLESS SYMPHONY PROJECT

The mullti-instrumentalist Paul McCandless (Oregon), one of the most important artists of today´s scene, presents his own compositions for

Symphony orchestra with Andrea Pellegrini.

MICHAEL MANTLER'S “DUETS” featuring Bjarne Roupé (guitar) and Per Salo (piano), performing music from Mantler’s new ECM release "For Two"
“Duets” continues Mantler’s basic concept of creating music that is in part completely notated, but also involves improvisation. It  is here reduced to a minimum, with only two instruments: the piano representing his basically orchestral compositional concept with a soloist from contemporary new music (non-improvising), combined with a second player coming from jazz, the guitarist (improvising/freely interpreting).
Bjarne Roupé, born in Sweden, but based in Copenhagen, is a well-known and immensely experienced musician who has performed and recorded with his own groups as well as with a multitude of international musicians and groups, among them Palle Mikkelborg and Miles Davis (Aura), Ocean Fables with Marilyn Mazur, Bob Brookmeyer, Johnny Griffin, Art Farmer, DeeDee Bridgewater, and many others.
Per Salo studied at the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music and the Juilliard School of Music in New York. Very active both as a soloist and as a chamber musician, his repertoire includes many contemporary works and has recorded numerous CDs with music by composers such as Charles Ives, Niels Viggo Bentzon, and others. He has received many awards, and currently holds the position of pianist and organist with the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Copenhagen.

MARC RIBOT`S FILM NOIR PROJECT

Sex! Trash! Violence! ...Fast Women, Sinister Men; Marc Ribot’s Noir explores a

lonely place; the border between classic noir film scores of the 40’s thru 60’s, and

the 80’s No-Wave bands who worshipped them. Material will include re-

arrangements of Henry Mancini (Touch of Evil), Andre Previn (Scene of the

Crime), Roy Budd (Get Carter), on the one hand; and John Lurie’s Lounge

Lizards, John Zorn, Rootless Cosmopolitans, and new noir by Marc Ribot on the

other.

Noir Project is a multi-disciplinary concept including both a concert and a series

of educational seminars and workshops built around the concept of ‘great film

noir scores of the 40’s through the early 70’s, and the 80’s No-Wave bands who

loved (and used) them.’

PAN AMERICAN MUSIC FEST presented by MARC RIBOT y LOS POSTIZOS & FRIENDS Marc revives his legendary party band the Positzos and sits in with one of the hardest grooving Colombian ensemble out of NYC today. One of the ultimate New York City party bands, Marc Ribot & Los Cubanos Postizos (aka "The Prosthetic Cubans) became a must see attraction in the late 1990s, its feverishlycookingshows buildaround arrangements of Cuban bandleader Arsenio Rodriguez - innovator of the son montuno. Recently revived and now going by the the simplyfied name of Marc Ribot & Los Postizos opens the format to incorporate musical influences from across the Americas but with the same latin based fervor. In this special evening, Marc Ribot presents Los Postizos billed along with the hard-groove of roots-rock cumbia outfit La Cumiamba eNeYe

YOUNG PHILADELPHIANS  Where deco meets disco meets decon; with Jamaladeen Tacuma, G. Calvin Weston, Bern Nix, Marc Ribot and Anthony Coleman. 5 professional, harmolodic noise improvisers with an uncommon love of Phillysoul and hardgroove. Forever young, forever Philadelphian, forever fixated on the moment before dance went digital. Stuck in the groove like a scratch in your favourite record. Ladies and Gentlemen... the hardest working men in punk/funk/soul/noise: The Young Philadelphians!!! The Young Philadelphians pays tribute twin legacies. The mind-blowing punk-funk of Ornette Coleman`s fors prime time band and the sweet, optimistic pulse of the 1970s Philly Soul. Ribot enlisted bassist Janaaladeen Tacuma and drummerG. Calvin Weston, both primetime alumni and Philadelphia natives, adding guitarist Bern Nix and keyboardist Anthony Coleman to do the job. And the name? "Ever see that movie with Paul Newman?" Ribot asks: "It`s about these rich young lawyers from Philly. We hat a goosaugh about that. You should hear our version of "Fly Robin Fly"
