"ARTBEARS SONGBOOK"

a contemporary look at the music of Fred Frith´ and Chris Cutler's late-1970s group Art Bears. In 1978, at the end of their long years with the legendary HENRY COW, guitarist/composer FRED FRITH and drummer/lyricist CHRIS CUTLER turned to the short song form and made, as ART BEARS, 3 LPs, still regarded as ground-breaking today for their radical combination of simplicity and complexity, unexpected juxtapositions harmonic subtlety and raw power. 30 years later they were asked by the Victoriaville festival Canada to present the material in concert form. Rather than reprise the old work, a larger ensemble was assembled, with three singers in place of one, and also expanding the ensemble with instrumentalists ZEENA PARKINS and CARLA KIHLSTEDT. Hence ?Songbook?.  Line Up:
Fred Frith, guitar, bass, voice
Chris Cutler, drums
Jewlia Eisenberg, voice
Kristin Slipp, voice
Carla Kihlstedt, violin, electr.violin,voice
Zeena Parkins, harp,synt,sampler,accordion
The Norman Conquest, mixing,processing,sound design
